Proud Camden, the love child of impresario Alex Proud who rose to prominence through the rock and sport photography displayed at the gallery, is back in business. Having shut their doors last year to relocate, they’ve changed the locks and have set up show at the neighbouring Stable Market’s two hundred year old listed Horse Hospital.

Despite it’s absence on the clubbing map, Proud, previously frequented by The Arctic Monkeys and Amy Winehouse, is obviously still the place to be seen, celebs at the re-launch listening to The Enemy and Drew (Babyshambles) included Jamie Winstone, Peaches Geldof and Sadie Front.

And their new abode is giving band’s double the floor space to play on across two rooms, a third room featuring the buildings original stables, while the famous deckchairs are in their rightful place on the outdoor terrace. Not much has changed where the music policy is concerned mind; expect plenty of cutting edge new and established acts alongside special guest DJs.

Celebrating new business in more ways than one at Proud this week are Don’t Panic, the infamous flyer distributors, who’ve just opened a new division in Brazil. Their Friday night residency at the club will work in-synch with their online magazine (www.dontpaniconline.com). For the launch, Gideon Reeling, purveyors of bespoke interactive experiences and immersive theatre, will be weaving their own special magic into the night. Presenter Scottee, who’s just announced plans to launch a new event called 3 at 333 on 30th April, will be bringing his own personal dressing up box and picking people at random from the crowd for live photo shoots. Don’t Panic poster artist James Unsworth will be building human size sculptures in front of your very eyes and The-O will be performing his own special brand of glitter-eating karaoke. The visuals supplied by Current TV are bound to get you thinking too while the music from Jodie Harsh, Dollop, Blaise and Styleslut will get you dancing. Lykke Li, Kid Harpoon, The Clik Clik and Kennedy are all playing live. Running 8pm – 2.30am, it’s £8 on the door.

Someone else we should be welcoming back with open arms this week is Sean Rowley. After the success of his Guilty Pleasures parties he’s joined forces with Johnno from Bugged Out to create Pop Odyssey, playing pop from the past three decades, from the hits of New Order and The Pet Shop boys to Daft Punk records that sample Barry White. Launching on Friday at the uber trendy Old Queens Head, 44 Essex Road, it’s only £4 to get in and the beers on tap too.

A-VIBE and The Believe Collective wants to develop ways in which the internet, social networking sites, blogs and mobiles can provide creative opportunities for young people to represent themselves and their communities.

UK award winning rapper Sway is also a firm believer in making a difference, he has leant his support to the cause:

“Fill in the questionnaire and have your say, it’s good to finally have a voice for the people that really matter. There’s a lot of talk going on, but this is about talking to those in the know”

In recent times there has been a lot of news and debate about gun and knife violence. In the past 7 weeks of this year alone, 7 teenagers have been murdered in London, bringing the total of teens murdered since beginning of 2007 to 34. Everyone is looking for answers, but are they asking the right people?
We want you to help us find the right people.

Are you affected by, or do you know anyone affected by gun or knife crime and gang culture? What roles do media and technology play in your life?

Apply For Red Bull Like NOW!

THE RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY TURNS TEN!
APPLICATION PHASE FOR BARCELONA 2008 NOW OPEN
March 14 – May 05, 2008

Workshop Term 1: September 21 – October 03, 2008
Workshop Term 2: October 12 – October 24, 2008

It’s double digits for the annual Red Bull Music Academy. The tenth Academy hits Barcelona this autumn and they are now accepting applications from passionate producers, singers and DJs who want access to mind-blowing lectures and access to jaw-dropping studio equipment. The Academy takes place during September and October and applications can be made between March 14th and May 5th 2008 at www.redbullmusicacademy.com

Each year two groups of thirty participants cherry-picked from all over the world – there have been house DJs from Khazakstan, hip hop producers from Colombia and multi-instrumentalists from New Zealand – are accepted into the Academy for a fortnight-long term. They are joined by a colourful list of musicians and musical experts who share studio tips and the stories behind the tunes during informal lectures and lab lessons. Gigs are then played by the guests and Academy attendees in different venues around the city.

The Red Bull Music Academy first opened its doors in 1998 and has become a platform for those who shape our sonic future. Since then over 450 pioneers of modern music have spoken at its various editions held around the globe including ‘90s hip hop godfather DJ Premier, Planet Rock producer Arthur Baker and The Mizell Brothers as well as a host of young producers from Sinden to Skream. In addition, many of the 600 alumni have gone on to collaborate with the experts they met at the Academy and have written albums or started their own labels. Previous participants include Buraka Son Sistema, Mr. Hudson and the Library, Aloe Blacc and Flying Lotus.

Traveling to a new location every year The Red Bull Music Academy has previously touched down in Cape Town, Berlin, San Paulo, Melbourne and Toronto. Each editing involves setting up a bespoke campus filled with local art, and building both a live recording room and a labyrinth of studios – and filling a borrowing-room with desirable synths, samplers and keyboards ready to be borrowed by the participants.

Applicants must be passionate about music, have a desire to learn and share ideas and be 18 before September 21 2008. Once the application process is completed, successful applications will be invited to participate in one of two terms: September 21 – October 03, 2008 or October 12 – October 24, 2008 in Barcelona.

For those interested in finding out more about The Red Bull Music Academy check out www.rbmaradio.com for on-demand access to over 500 exclusive shows, mixes, live feeds, tribute sets, guest DJs and interviews, as well as lecture podcasts from some of the Academy’s most inspirational guests. All information and lectures are also available at www.redbullmusicacademy.com

In addition as part of this year's Red Bull Music Academy programme, Karen P's Broadcasting welcomes Ethio-jazz originator Mulatu Astatke for a one-off live date at London's Cargo on Thursday 17th April, his first gig in the city for 15 years. The night will be recorded especially for Red Bull Music Academy Radio.

LIVE 27!

The new issue of LIVE Magazine comes back from the printers next week. A double, bumper issue, it includes an opening letter from the man like Gordon Brown, as we get deep into the politics game and look at the need for young people to get politically active. Also inside there's interviews with Oona King, 18 year old MP William Lloyd, an investigation into the Paris riots, the rise of girl gangs, we debate the need for metal detectors in school and exactly what it means to be British in 2008. On a lighter note, there's cooking with Jay Sean, behind the scenes footage of both Bashy's Black Boys shoot and H20's video for What's It Gonna Be, plus exclusive interviews with Mutya, Maroon 5, Scouting For Girls, Tawiah, Operator Please, KT Tunstall, Kelly Rowland, Wretch 32 and Scroobius Pip Vs Dan Le Sac. As if that's not enough, there's also all the latest news and reviews, penned entirely by young people for young people.

DIESEL UMUSIC RADIOOOOOOOooo

Hi there,

Would you like to make the radio programme of your dreams?

What is that weird and wonderful aural experience that’s been running round your tiny mind forever?

HOW COULD YOU EVER GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD AND BROADCAST TO THE WORLD…

…by getting it on Diesel UMusic Radio: You Music – Your Radio

Throughout the whole of May ‘Diesel UMusic RadiOoooo’ will be broadcasting from The Amersham in New Cross, London, will be encompassing all that is great about music: music: music…oh and art, design, fashion and pretty much anything that could possibly be classed as interesting in contemporary culture…

UMusic Radio will be a book-marked site and station that has global and local listeners - connecting with people who are both creators and followers of music and culture around the World…in the UK…in London…in New Cross.

Going from global to local we will provide a platform to broadcast to local people like you – ALL AROUND THE WORLD.

Our content remit will reach far and wide, and although featuring all the global programming, the station will have a uniquely British character. With music at the heart of the station, listeners will be offered an unprecedented explosion of live and recorded programmes and whether just a two minute sound-bite, a five minute audio diary or a two hour, mix all our programmes will have passion, personality and attitude.

There’s going to be bloggers, producers, labels, magazines you’ve heard of doing their thing but there’s also going to be plenty of room in the schedule for YOU to get on the AIRWAVES. (and wherever you are in the world, we want to hear from you):

…Maybe you’re a record shop owner who wants to tell the world what’s going down in your part of your town...maybe you’re a bassline/reggaton/bmore/dubstep producer and you know your tunes are fat; your friends know your tunes are fat but just need a platform to unleash them onto an unsuspecting public…maybe you live in New Cross and you want to give us a walkabout tour of the local area…maybe you’re a comedienne and you’ve got some jokes that need a good airing….maybe you just love cheese and you want to broadcast your love of it to the world….maybe you’re an undiscovered band that wants to hook up with like-minded people around the world...maybe you’re a trainspotting blogger who loves italo-disco…maybe you’re an ex-Goldsmiths’ student who wants to show some love…maybe you’re a sound-effects geek who just wants to broadcast a programme about unusual aural sounds…

Alongside all the programmes made by you, there’ll be live recordings from some of London’s finest club nights – recorded downstairs at The Amersham and exclusive interviews and audio diaries collected at Miami, SXSW, Coachella and in Glasgow, Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam.

If you are interested, please submit your idea (no more than 1 page of A4 text) to myumusicradio@googlemail.com by April 14th.
