Lily Allens A Fool

Consuela's Peril, originally uploaded by jaquaw.

Now I'm sure I'm about to upset a whole bunch of people, just like I upset Faction G enough in my review of his last mixtape that he put me on a freestyle which Logan Sama played on Kiss 100 this past Monday. But much like Lily's diss to me, look at the face, bothered? So background and bull, It's Wednesday night and following a great evening at Favella Chic (big up Neil Boorman for the invite, the chef for the free dinner and everyone at our table for providing great entertainment), Collins and I headed for The Old Blue Last. We'd been told Aaron LaCrate and Amanda Blank were on at 12, but we managed to hear the last 30 seconds of the final record before getting turfed. Tron and Johan directed the gang and the i-D Magazine massive to the afterparty in Dalston (which no one else actually bothered coming to), some underground club business which was alright given the amount of alcohol consumed and the stunning dance moves pulled out by ones like Kesshia and Zezi. So to the story. Girl Better Know I needed a wee. So I'm queueing at the toilets for a good five minutes but the two people in the one bog aren't coming out for shit. Not wanting to make a scene i.e. a puddle, I give it a knock and ask whether they plan to come out anytime today. Now, for all I know these two could have been a. constipated b. doing coke c. having a bit of each other. I don't care. I just wanted the friggin toilet. The door opens and I'm greeted by Miquita Oliver and her mate (I'm later told this is Lily Allen), who after looking me up and down says 'Miquita, didn't you have that jacket like three years ago,' As I close the door to release the tension SWV style, i'm in shock. After a few drinks I can become quite rowdy but how the fuck do you respond to such shallow ramblings? And shit, they even fucked up the diss, the coat I was wearing is officially vintage given it belongs to Collins' sister who's had it for seven, perhaps eight years. Regardless if I'm late on the Diesel jacket front (like Miquita herself), who thinks to drop such a line? If I said something like that, I'd go home and feel like a prick for coming so playground. Up your game. This is east London, I thought the standard line for a riled toilet user would be 'what's your problem?' at least, followed potentially with a butt to the head. It was suggested that I go to the papers with this amazingly exclusive insight into the world of Lily Allen, but quite frankly, who gives a pigs arse? She also bumped into me later while I tore up the dance floor J Lo on acid style, I did get an apology although i'm not 100% sure it was meant genuinely. The girls wanted to move to her differently anyway, but allow that, I love that jacket (It could be worth P's on ebay cuz) and I ain't messing up it for any fool so shh hut yuh muh.

I've never had this comparison before, it's a fluke I swear up, down, left, right, north, east, south and shit the bed, even west. Not only am I far more pikey looking, I'm a few stone heavier, way less shiny and the only ballers I know are on the under 13's cricket team. Hyper of www.hyperfrank.blogspot.com is queen/trannie/king of many things grime comedy-like so I'll allow it like most mixtapes I've been listening to today (oh what a hard job, suck your groupie mum you poooomplex). Swinngggggg while you're at it. One thing though Hyper, and this is no patronising 'I'm trying to skool you' thing, cause I'm guilty of slippin' trust, but spotted a spelling mistake... should read "I'm funny. YOU'RE not. Simple." But I love you till the end, cupcakes, cherrys and naked Beckhams on top.

Album Of The Year?

PLANB_CD_COVER_small, originally uploaded by chantelle.

Quite possibly. Out June 26th, pre-order now http://www.recordstore.co.uk/679recordings/home.jsp?Search=5101149 If you haven't pick up Hip Hop Connection too, comes with a free Plan B CD including tracks that didn't get on the album along with those you'll already know. Surprised Rakin' The Dead didn't make it onto Who Needs Actions... but then again I wouldn't want to be the one having to make the cuts. New favourite is the albums title track, it's a strong look for Ben Drew for sure. Look out for a comp on his website this week to win tickets to an exclusive album showcase happening next week. www.time4planb.co.uk. But why does he only have one shoe on in that shot?

People might be putting Boy Better Know up against The Movement (on the RWD forum) but yesterdays session recording the remix to The Streets 'Prangin Out' was all bless. They even checked the thread together. Draw for the violin for real. Full line up for that track to be revealed soon but trust me when I say it's B.I.G.

It's How You Wear It

quote-about, originally uploaded by chantelle.

The other day I was sat across from a woman about 5 years older than me, I admired her ability to wear tight fitting white trousers with no VPL, the shoes that looked pinching yet fitted her feet on a Cinderella tip, even the accessories looked tight. I thought my girl must be earning P's (even though she was elusive as to her job description), then the next day I'm bopping down Asda where my trusty mother points out said womans entire outfit. George at Asda are not endorsing me, nor am I saying they're going to take over like adidas, but just do you cuzzie and the results may be surprising.

Here are some more fashion recommendations from people who don't shop at supermarkets;

Sincere, rapper. "I used to wear a lot of D&G and Christian Dior but I'd like to rock whoever's willing to sponsor me. I get stuff from Griffin, it's a cross between Stone Island and Armani, but what I really want in 2006 is to sell a lot of my album, So Far So Good Vol.1."

Baby Blue, rapper."For me 2006 is all about bright colours, Bathing Ape, dungarees, Inhabit Clothing and my line, Rachel Estelle coming soon. Also dropping in the summer is my album, Through Innocent Eyes."

Young Blad Malitia (YBM), rappers (Nougz, Fresh Face, Young Propane, Kiddy Kids)
"Daniel Lei is our tip for next year, exclusive, you need to know about King hats and YBM are putting Fila back on the map. We're going to blow and get bare video's on Channel U and MTV Base. Watch for the mixtapes too, Back 2 Basics and our EP Everyday On The Road is out now. Stay fly and make hits, that's us."

Bigz, rapper, CEO. "I like to shine and I'm looking fresh to death for the new year. You gotta stay focused and fly til you die, whether you're going to an interview or going to make a chick. Know about John Richmond jeans. The Best Of The Beginning: The Story So Far is out now and my album, Street Commentary is coming out in May."

Dynamo, Magician. "We need to sort it out, the whole pink clothes on guys... Camron can pull it off but I don't think anyone else can. And what about skin tight clothes on guys? Nah. I'm listening to Mike Jones, Sway, SAS, Kano, Bizzle, Plan B and a few others. Watch out for my second DVD coming in 2006."

Digital Dan, Camera Operator,"Keep it positive and stop promoting violence and gun talk. We need to live in unity, long the racism too. I've been affected by it all my life and it's depressing, it properly still exists even from my own Chinese brothers, stereotyping, alienating me... I'm just doing me. Don't be afraid to be different, experiment with colour but you won't catch me wearing pink."

Street Politiks. "Keep grinding, stay paid, stay positive. As long as it looks good we wear it, we switch all the time. Lots of yellow, white and blues for us next year. The album Pound And A Promise is out now."

Skepta aka Joseph Junior Adenuga, artist
"Furry hats, I'm the original furry hat dan. Everyone's trying to bust these hats now. The key for 2006 is never think you're the biggest you can be. You can always get better. My album Greatest Hits is going to be out in 2006, listen to that."

Jammer, artist. "Keep going, it's a long, long road. Dress like me, check the articles, I dress choong. I've been starving the streets for too long. Murkle Man's going to drop in 2006 as is my album. Watch for the Jahmek The World camp."

Pablo, actor/road man/MC. "You can't go wrong with white t-shirts and white socks. That's what I'm wearing, you gotta make sure you've got on matching socks incase you take your shoes off round your girls house. I'm sleeping in my jogging bottoms too but if she's special she might see me in my boxers. My mixtape will be out soon, the film London State Of Mind, it's my first lead role and Meridian are coming back for 2006."

Pariz 1. "Buy in bulk and buy comfy. My shit needs to be bought, the mixtape Uncomplicated Vision is out now. I'm gonna be in the gym for a month straight."

Urkleman, man about town. "The bigger the glasses the better, and don't watch the stains."

The O'Sullivan Brothers, PJ & Shaun. "You gotta look tough and shave your head every morning, wooly hats are needed in the colder months, do it right and you'll still look thug. Just keep it real."

Nikki S & Nyke "We're going to try and take our music to a wider audience while looking as trash as ever. The Ska Riddim and Badaba are out now and the album's forever expanding. Our next mixtape will be Rodney & Del Boy with a lot of jokes. Keep it original, keep it sharp. Girls pull it off better than guys though."

Simon, Owner of music production company PTE, www.ptemedia.com. "I've always dressed street dapper. There's a lot of good music out now, I'm still backing Roll Deep. We made When I'm Ere, Heat Up, Reload It videos. I represent the directors Indica so we want to push forward with what we've started."

NEWSFLASH: Message to Danny Walker and all Dunlop haters from Street Politiks "Create your own style. Dunlops are coming back. When you were younger you'd cringe if your mum bought you them but we're older and wiser now, they're cheap, cheerful, look smart... Get to know!"

Mixmag Returns

Ever Feel Like This?

Entrapment, originally uploaded by Ted Adams.

RIP

Back in March I read someone called NAT's myspace bulletin regarding another fallen soldier, his cousin. After a bit of discussion he wrote me this for my blog, now I don't necessarily agree with all that's written but at the same time, these situations are often best addressed by those around it, not those reporting it. You only have to read the Evening Standards initital report on the arrests of Goodz & Titch to know shits twisted in the streets and the papers. On a happier note, I think NAT's now joined Black Ops so check out his myspace.com/natztamc for beats and bars. He even knows someone called Cheesecake.

"1st off RIP Daniel "Chilly" Williams, another fallen soldier died on 9th March 2006. When you see movies like Menace 2 Society, even Scarface, somewhere in the film someone always gets murked. Now in reality it's like people are wanting to live out these films, it's all shank, shank, bang, bang. A lot of it is living up to a so called 'rep' but all 'rep' gets you is a 7 year stretch in HMP or 6 foot D Double E P. A lot of UK rap/grime artists feel they need to channel their energy into that and without saying names, they are wishing they did something better with their time. Now I'm an MC who spits on grime music (although I personally don't like that nametag, I prefer Eskibeat, Sublow or Dubstep) and I feel honestly as an artist that wants to be establised, that grime needs to focus on the more positive side of life cause society and the scene's stuck. Let's not talk about how many guns you've popped or man you've killed cause right about now that's air. Look at how many man have lost their life in your area in the last few weeks. Focus on how many units you have sold for your label or deeper things like how you like to spend Christmas, your family or your other half because trust me you see when you're locked up in hospital or worse, these are the things you actually appreciate. I'm trying to pin point what's really letting the scene down and us as people, as a movement. People are paying attention now because too many people are falling. My cousin dying has made me see, in relation to grime, that on a real, us man (from Nottingham), we are all listening to gangsta rap and grime, blurring the lines between fiction and reality, trying to live out some daft film with no happy ending. Don't ever get it twisted, I know real gun man, although I'm not one, but trying to use shooting a man or raping a girl as a way of attracting an audience or marketing your product is AIR. You gonna be proud of that? People really go through this shit and it's not how it's portrayed on telly. If that's what you want to do then do it, trust me real and I mean real man, ain't gonna say "Yeah I've got a 4.5 and I'm gonna use it," because they're too busy actually doing what they say they're gonna do. It really is dog eat dog in a gangsta's world and I say let all my dogs eat, standard. Positivity, that's what we need. N.A.T M.C"

Blackdowns Garage Story

Tis a revival story, true garage story,
This is my story, real garage story.

I remember those days when TPL was my home,
When me and Dusk went to Velvet Rooms alone,
An El-B should have had his own throne,
When Hatcha sets made grown men groan.

I remember when Dizzee made beats in Bermondsy,
An the Boy in Da Corner went and won the Mercury,
I remember meeting Wiley in 2002 star,
An Wonder changed my life with a Eskimo Devil mix from the boot of his car.

I remember when me and Chan spread the grime word,
Deuce magazine shouted, but nobody heard,
Kode 9 dropped “Subkon” and nobody cared,
Skream basses warped into places nobody dared.

I remember getting the tube to DMZee,
When Al-Qaeda had just bombed carriages not far from me,
And Mala dropped Anti War long before it was on TP,
And all you could feel was positivity.

I remember Dubstep Warz changing the rules,
The Burial album came armed with big tools,
Loefah’s mixdowns left blood dripping in pools,
An all the garage haterz looked like fools.

We run the roads now,
Dem outta luck now,
We make our sound and the majors dem play catchup now,
We have whole heap a extra box a dubs cause we nuh bruk now,
Rah... rah... rah ... rah.
